UCLA Makes the 2021 Best Workplaces for Commuters List for Supporting Essential Workers and Telecommuting Employees

Once again, UCLA has been recognized nationally as one of the Best Workplaces for Commuters for offering exceptional commuter programs that help faculty and staff get to work. UCLA earns this designation year after year by providing transportation choices such as subsidized transit passes, bicycle-friendly amenities, and other rideshare solutions.

In a year like no other, UCLA responded to the challenges faced by its workforce by facilitating easier parking on campus for employees that remained onsite, producing a telecommuting guide, and providing timely information and updates concerning the public transit agencies serving the campus.

  • When the campus closed, flexible options were offered to employees, including Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center health care workers, who still needed to park on campus. Permits could already be purchased online. To further assist commuters, discounted daily parking was made available to employees via payroll deduction, credit and debit card, and e-check. Cross-parking into more convenient areas was also enabled for essential employees, allowing them to park closer to their work location, pending space availability.
  • At the request of UCLA Administration to provide resources for employees working from home, UCLA Transportation, in collaboration with Campus Human Resources, developed an online telecommuting guide. The new website has guidance and information to assist the campus community with telework.
  • Public transit provides essential transportation to close to 8,000 employees at UCLA. Information and updates on service changes were regularly communicated to riders of the local and commuters lines serving the campus. Safe riding tips were also shared with bus and train passengers.

UCLA will continue to offer commuting options that help Bruins show up for work, whether they're walking, biking, riding public transit to campus, or telecommuting.
