As we Bruins wrap up the year and prepare to be whisked away from school and work for the winter break, the last thing any of us wants to worry about is figuring out how to get to the airport — if holiday plans include heading out of town by sky. Luckily, there are several sustainable ways to get to LAX from UCLA, gratefully making it unnecessary to beg a fellow Bruin for that all-too-dreaded favor of driving you to the airport — unless the plan is to carpool, of course.
Ready for take-off? Let's explore the options!
Hop on the bus
Traveling by public transit to LAX is smoother than ever, with the opening of the new LAX/Metro Transit Center station and its dedicated shuttle every 10 minutes to all LAX terminals. The best way is via Culver CityBus Line 6/Rapid 6 - Sepulveda Blvd, where you can hop on in Westwood or on campus, then travel to the station. Your UCLA-issued transit pass, be it Bruin U-Pass, Bruin Grad Pass, or the Employee Commuter All-Access Transit Pass, makes that trip fare-free.
Not a regular transit rider with a UCLA TAP Card? Go with the Co-pay option to still take advantage of a discounted rate for a Culver CityBus ride to the airport.
Hail a ride
Ride-hailing apps are a popular way to get to the airport. Go sustainably and save money with UberPool, which matches you with others going in the same direction, and is cheaper than a standard ride. Waymo, the fully electric, self-driving company, also comes to the UCLA campus and can get you there. When ride-hailing from campus, make sure you're picked up at one of our designated pick-up zones and follow these safety tips.
If you hail a ride after your return flight to LAX, remember you'll need to take the free shuttle to the LAX-it pickup area to meet your driver. You can still get dropped off at the curb when arriving at LAX for your departing flight.
Hire a shuttle
Airport shuttles such as Prime Time Shuttle are another option for a shared ride to LAX. Make sure to compare prices to find an affordable option that works for you.
Let these sustainable transportation options to the airport take some stress out of the holiday season. One final tip before you take off: always allow extra time.
Have a wonderful winter break, Bruins!
